We are setting up a dedicated team of Kenyans to lead efforts in counseling and vaccination against the HPV virus, which causes almost all cases of cervical cancer.
Cervical cancer is the most common cancer among African women, with 90% of cases occurring in low- and middle-income countries. Despite the Kenyan government offering free HPV vaccinations since October 2019, distribution efforts have been largely unsuccessful, particularly in remote areas, leaving vaccination levels at just 31%.
Our initiative aims to bridge this gap by focusing on counseling, screening, and vaccination. Western countries have demonstrated that these efforts can significantly reduce cervical cancer rates, and we are committed to ensuring the same success in Kenya and other developing regions. Together, we will work to eradicate cervical cancer in the developing world.
