An important milestone: 10,000 girls vaccinated against HPV
Health Yetu Foundation and our partner Lake Turkana Wind Power Limited are proud to celebrate an important milestone: 10,000 girls vaccinated against HPV. It feels like only yesterday that our team administered the very first HPV vaccination. Since then, what started as an ambitious initiative has grown into a programme that has reached thousands of girls in remote communities across Northern Kenya.
Reaching 10,000 vaccinations is about much more than a number. Behind every vaccination is a girl who now has greater protection against HPV, the virus responsible for the vast majority of cervical cancer cases. It is also the result of many people working together - from our dedicated Kenyan HPV team and healthcare professionals to schools, local communities and our partners on the ground.
Delivering preventive healthcare in remote areas comes with its challenges. Long distances, difficult roads and limited access to healthcare mean that reaching every community requires commitment, flexibility and strong local collaboration. Our teams continue to go where access to healthcare is needed most.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has worked so hard to make this milestone possible, and especially proud of our Kenyan team for their dedication and determination. Our partnership with Lake Turkana Wind Power Limited enables us to continue bringing HPV vaccination closer to girls who might otherwise have limited access to this important form of prevention.
And 10,000 is not the finish line. There are many more girls and communities we want to reach. Every vaccination brings us another step closer to a future in which cervical cancer can be prevented - regardless of where a girl is born or how far she lives from healthcare.
