Upcoming Integrated Medical Camp in Samburu County

Uaso Rongai and Tuum, 19–24 October 2026

Health Yetu Foundation is preparing an integrated medical camp in Uaso Rongai and Tuum, Samburu County, Kenya, from 19 to 24 October 2026. The camp will bring essential eye care, dental services, and HPV vaccinations closer to communities with limited access to healthcare. Over four full clinical days across the two locations, we aim to administer 750–1,000 HPV vaccinations, perform 100 sight-restoring cataract surgeries, and provide 1,500 dental procedures.

Four full clinical days across two locations

The main clinical programme will take place from 19 to 24 October 2026, with four full clinical days across two locations:

- Uaso Rongai: 19–20 October

- Tuum: 22–23 October

- Postoperative check-ups: 21 and 24 October

Approximately 34 medical professionals will participate, supported by four Health Yetu Foundation coordinators and two drivers. The camp is being organised in partnership with Desert Rose Lodge/Trust, Lions SightFirst Eye Hospital, M.P. Shah Hospital and Naret Organization.

Our goals for the camp

Through this integrated programme, Health Yetu Foundation and its partners aim to provide:

- 750–1,000 HPV vaccinations

- 100 sight-restoring cataract surgeries

- 1,500 dental procedures

These ambitious goals reflect the scale of unmet healthcare needs in northern Samburu and our shared commitment to delivering accessible, high-quality care to the communities that need it most.

Reaching communities across northern Samburu

Operating from two clinical sites will enable the medical teams to reach communities in and around Uaso Rongai and Tuum. Desert Rose Lodge will serve as an important operational base for the programme. Before the camp, the local team will assess the proposed sites and map the surrounding communities. This work will help identify priority areas, coordinate community mobilisation and prepare patients for the services available. An eye-care prescreening programme is planned for 5–11 October. Patients requiring cataract surgery will be identified in advance and supported in reaching the appropriate clinical location.

Camp schedule

Health Yetu Foundation coordinators will arrive in Uaso Rongai on 17 October, followed by the eye, dental and HPV teams on 18 October. The teams will use the day to prepare the clinic, organise equipment and welcome patients scheduled for cataract procedures. Clinical services will begin in Uaso Rongai on 19 October and continue through 20 October. On 21 October, the team will conduct postoperative check-ups before transferring the camp to Tuum. The Tuum clinic will operate on 22 and 23 October. Final postoperative check-ups will take place on 24 October, after which the medical teams will return to Nairobi.

Building skills and providing follow-up care

The programme extends beyond the four clinical days. Four nurses are scheduled to receive dental training in Nairobi from 20 to 31 July, helping to strengthen local healthcare knowledge and capacity. After the camp, digital postoperative follow-up for dental and eye patients is planned for 26–30 October. Physical follow-up visits in Uaso Rongai and Tuum are scheduled for 16–22 November. These checks will allow the teams to monitor patients’ recovery and provide further support where needed.

Working together for accessible healthcare

This integrated camp reflects Health Yetu Foundation’s commitment to connecting underserved communities with practical, high-quality healthcare. By combining specialist services, local mobilisation, professional training and structured follow-up, the programme aims to create an impact that continues well beyond the camp itself. We are grateful to our medical partners, local coordinators, volunteers and supporters whose collaboration makes this work possible. Further updates about the camp and its results will be shared on our news page.
